Español

Hola.

Grace

What is Grace?

This can be an easy question. But it could be a very hard question also. Grace sometimes makes sense...but sometimes...it doesn't. I remember a ropes coarse challenge we did at camp one year. We had to get from one spot to another with out touching the ground. I don't remember exactly what the activity was. But it was hard. And we fell often. But every once in a while the leader would say "grace" and we could get back on and continue from where we were (which was really helpful) I guess as a kid in middle school I didn't quite get it. Someone said "grace" and we got to continue so hopefully we could finish the challenge. But as I get older I realize that grace isn't as simple as that. It isn't even close. It's very complex and hard to understand. Especially humans. But it is very important. Without grace...where would we be?

What does the Bible Say?

I went on to Biblegateway.com and found a list of scriptures that use the word grace. Included on that list are.

Psalm 86:6

Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer; listen to my plea for grace.

John 1:14

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:16

And from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.

John 1:17

For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

Acts 11:23

When he came and saw the grace of God, he was glad, and he exhorted them all to remain faithful to the Lord with steadfast purpose,

Acts 15:11

But we believe that we will be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, just as they will

Romans 3:23-24

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift,

Romans 5:17

For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the

one man Jesus Christ.

There are so many things that those verses say about grace. Here is what I can see...

  1. Grace is a gift that we have received

  2. Grace is abundant

  3. We can saved by the grace of Jesus

  4. Grace came through Jesus

  5. Jesus is full of grace

Why is grace so important?

I am not a good person to answer this question. I don't hardly know anything. My mind just can't grasp it. But here is what I think. We have all sinned. We have all fallen short. We have broken so many commandments. Everyone has. And we don't deserve anything wonderful. But through grace God gives us what we don't deserve. Grace is freely given because God loves us. We need grace. No one really understands grace.

In Conclusion

I guess I don't have much else to say. But there is a video. It's funny but also serious. It's pertaining to grace. If any of ya'll know me really well you will know that I love The Skit Guys. There is one video dealing with grace. I enjoyed it and I hope you do to.

Skit Guys Video: Grace, We Just Don't Get It

I heard a...I don't know what it's called but it talks about grace.

God's

Riches

At

Christ

Expense

I think that sums it up reasonably. I guess there is a whole lot more that I could say. But I should probably just leave it at that.

Part 2

OK. I'm sorry I kind of just ended that last post with out giving any suggestion. But maybe you needed sometime to think of ideas on you're own if you wanted to. But I completely understand. You decide you want to do something but have no clue what to do. I've had that problem...well...countless times. But God has showed me answers. One way is through a book I got for my birthday. It is called Generation Change by Zach Hunter and it's pretty much a whole bunch of ideas and stories about people who have done similar things and such. I'm going to list some ideas....

  1. Skip a meal and use the money you would be spending to feed someone who truly is hungry. If you want to go a step further skip one meal a week and then you can save up a lot of money. You can possible use that to buy one of the animals at World Vision to give to someone in another country. Or you can do something locally and use the money to buy canned goods to donate to your local food bank.

  2. Or maybe instead of going out to eat one night eat at home and calculate the money you would save and donate that money to feed someone who is hungry.

  3. In Generation Change it suggested a Burrito project. Beans and rice and tortillas aren't expensive. So you can buy the goods make some and then go to a downtown area and eat burritos with the homeless people downtown.

  4. If you are an artistic person you can use the gift God has given you in many ways. One is you can paint, draw, knit, crochet, weave, etc. and then sell what you make and use that money to donate to a good organization.

  5. For Christmas you can ask for just money and then donate that to a good organization that helps other or buy cans for the food bank or whatever.

  6. Make a hut out of cardboard and duct tape and sleep out in it for a night. You can get a whole group. You can get people to sponsor you for the night. You can sleep in front of the school, church building, house, or whatever works for you. In Generation Change it talked about this idea. The book also talked about writing facts about homelessness. It's a really good idea.

  7. If you are gifted with being athletic you can run, ride a bike, swim or whatever for a mile or whatever and get people to pay for mile and donate the money.

  8. In Generation Change there was a really good idea. I know the closest big city close to me does but some maybe several cities have places where you can paint pottery. In the book students designed bowls and then had a dinner. They invited families from their church and the family paid for dinner and they each got to select a bowl to put on the dining room table. But the bowl was to remain empty to remind the family of the people who don't get to eat.

  9. Help with a Habitat for Humanity build.

  10. Or simply be kind to people. Open doors when their hands are full, helping people carry things when they look like they need help, saying hi to someone, we both can think of hundreds if not thousands of ways we can be kind to other people. It's just simple and easy.

I honestly had another idea but I forgot. Sorry. I'll post it later if I remember.

UPDATE

11. Collect spare change to donate. Some people say to collect spare change to pay for a vacation but you don't need to go on vacation. Whenever I go to trips I save the coins I have left over. My parents let me keep them. I give them the bills but The change amounts to something after a while. Me and my sister have collected over $20 worth in change. Sure it isn't that much but we plan to donate it to someone.

From personal experience there won't always be people interested in helping. Some ideas require a collaborative effort. And sometimes support is very hard to find. And you might get put down. But pray. I had the problem where my friends didn't care and whenever I suggested anything they just said, "Whatever" and laughed it off. It sure doesn't make a person feel good. And recently I told my friend we needed to do something and she said she wanted to. She had seen a video about Invisible Children and wanted to help with that organization. She wanted to do something big. We weren't quite sure how to get things started but God is sure amazing! So if you want to start something you could get put down by you're friends. But there is someone else out there willing to do great things with you and who wants to. They just might be looking for someone who wants to stand up too.

I highly recommend Generation Change by Zach Hunter as well as Be the Change by Zach Hunter. I just finished Be the Change and am over half way through Generation Change. Great books.

Update:I do realize some of the suggestions aren't really practical for everyone. I think you have to be 16 to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. But some things you can do as a family or with a group of friends. Sorry I should have remembered to put this earlier.

Being Fine Just As You Are

OK, I wasn't sure what to put as the title but I but something.

Something has been bugging me lately, maybe it's because I've been noticing it more often but I'm sure it's been going on for longer than I've been noticing. That thing is apathy. But not exclusively. Let's take a guy named A. This guy is a fictional character, but A is like a lot of people. He wakes up Sunday mornings to go to church because his parents make him or because some of his friends are there. After church his friends go goof off the rest of the day. Goes to school and is the cool guy, cusses because he thinks it's cool, just messes around during the week. But every once in a while he goes to church on Wednesdays but for the same reasons he goes to church on Sundays and goofs off afterward. Rest of the week goes by and then Friday comes and it's party time. Saturday just hangs out with friends. And back on Sunday. He's the guy you see at See You At The Pole (praying in front of the school around the flag pole for those who don't know) and you don't expect to see him there.

Sadly there are a lot of people like that. I could name tons. I could even put my week on here and I'd be ashamed of it. But just living life like every thing's alright. Just going through the motions.

YOU AREN'T THE ONLY PERSON IN THE WORLD

Yes I know, weird title. But it's relevant.

Look outside...I don't know where you live but I know where I live. In a small town. there's cotton fields around my house. But it's a well-to-do neighborhood. But if I go to the downtown area of the nearest big town it's way different. People on street corners with old clothes that are either too big or too small. I remember going to Dallas and seeing people living in cardboard huts. And there are all these people who have never gone hungry, who get whatever they want, and have never had to sacrifice anything. A lot of times these are the people who are complaining about the smallest things.

There are children who are dying from disease and starvation. There are children who are orphans and some people are thinking how "horrible" their parents are because they have to be home by a certain time or that they can't have the newest whatever.

I don't see how people can be OK with people dying and not knowing God. Or people starving, or living in orphanages, or being persecuted for worshiping God. I know plenty of people who go to church but when facing persecution they would run. Sure I'd be hard to stand but it's possible. But it's too hard for some or they don't want to sacrifice popularity, or anything. But in the U.S. you don't have people burning down churches and throwing Christians in prison. How many people would be willing to stand.

I read and article about a group of Christians who were worshiping at the spot their church building use to be before it was burnt down by people who were against them. But they still met there.

I don't know where I'm going with all of this but here's what I'm trying to say. But here i guess is the gist of it all. We cannot be OK with being apathetic, going through the motions, or whatever. We cannot be OK with others suffering and we need to do something about it.

OK I'm 16 years old. I don't know how old you are but maybe you're thinking. What can I do? Do you really want to know? Well I guess to be honest you can't really do that much. But...God can. There are many people he has used to do great things. Just look at the Rebelution website and you will find some.

Then what are you going to do if you have excited to do something? Well that's between you and God. Right now I'm making scarves, baby hats, and other knitted goods to bring with me to Peru (I might haven't said that I'm going to Peru. Now you know) and to send to England. but there are many things that we can do.

Birthday/Spring Break

It's my birthday! Now I'm 16 years old. That's crazy! It's kinda weird. Today I'm going to go get my license. Most people my age are excited about this but I'm not so much. I'm really not the best driver and I don't like driving.

I wanted to go apply for my passport today but that might not happen.

It's currently my spring break. But it's nearly over. Over the break I went all over the southwest. OK maybe not all over. First we drove to Gallop, NM as soon as school was over. We spent the night in Gallop and woke up and drove to the Petrified Forest. Then went to the Grand Canyon. We got there that evening walked part of the rim. Then we ate at a really good restaurant then we went to bed. The next morning we woke up at 5:30 to see the sunrise over the Grand Canyon in 20 degree weather. It was cold! But it was worth it. It was beautiful. After the sun rose we went back to the hotel to eat and I rested. But then we went back, found someone who was with us' parents, and went to the canyon. We hiked down into the canyon. Well not that far. Probably less than a mile. It was icy and the ice was covered with dirt so you couldn't see the ice. But it was fun. My mom ended up getting tired so I hiked back up with her. I really wanted to go further down but I didn't want to go up after that. We took several breaks until my mom just said we would just wait until everyone else would got to where we were. I just took pictures of trees and stuff. We made it to the top then we hung out at the Grand Canyon. There was a hotel and stuff. It was pretty cool. Soon we drove to another town and just stayed at the hotel there. The next morning we drove to Four Corners and shopped at all the stands with jewelry and stuff. My sister got a knife made out of a buffalo rib. It's pretty cool. Then we took pictures at the Four Corners. Then we got back into the car and drove to Durango Co. We ate downtown and wanted to shop but only a few stores were open. So we didn't. The next day we took the Durango/Silverton train but since it was sill winter we only went half way. It was pretty fun but I felt sick because the train rocked back and forth so much. But it was really cool! After that we went downtown and shopped. The next day we drove home. We stopped at Santa Fe but didn't stop for too long.

Well that's what happened on the trip.

Theme Songs

I have some theme songs. They are well...my theme songs. It's like a list of songs that I relate to and I like the message in the song. Here they are

All That Matters-Addison Road

I may never be the one that gets a second glance
I may never be the one they call the prettiest
But that’s alright with me
And maybe I don’t follow every crazy passion
Spend all my time trying to get a good reaction
But that’s OK with me

This world is like a trampoline
High and low no in between
Jumping at the chance to please
Everyone but that’s not me

Cause all that matters is
All that matters is
I know your love has set me free
And that’s all that matters to me
Cause all that matters is
All that matters is
I know your love has set me free
And that’s all that matters to me
Some people tell me to step out and do my own thing
And others say I got to blend in just to be the same
And stop being me
But this shallow world is no longer what I’m made of
I’ve been changed by grace
I’ve been saved by love
What more do I need

*All that matters is
All that matters is
I know your love has set me free
And that’s all that matters to me (x2)*

My life comes from the One
Who made the stars and brought the sun
He loves me more than these
So I don’t need another identity
Cause all that matters is
All that matters is I know your love has set me free
And that’s all that matters to me (X2)

I like this song because it says how all this stuff the world says matters doesn't really matter because every one's precious in God's eyes. So it doesn't matter if we are what the world says is attractive or popular or not. God thinks we are wonderful just the way we are and He made us exactly the way He wanted to. You don't need another identity because God's given you a perfect one. All that matters is that God loves you.

Letters to the President

When we were younger,
we used to sit on my porch
And talk smack about girls and professional sports
There's a lot of things I wanted to say
But never got a chance to find a way

take a good look at all of our high schools
This is the first reason that I want to write you
It must be tough when society is messed up
Gotta save money, please don't take it out on us
Do they even know?
Do they even know?

If I was brave I'd write a letter to the president
And have him pass it to the leaders of our parliament
But for now I won't say nothing
From all the kids who would stand in my residence
Who see this letter as a statement of our innocence
But for now I won't say nothing

Now that we're older a brand new story unfolds
About God and the laws that we've always been told
And there's a lot of things I wanted to say
But never got a chance to find a way

Same-sex marriage in a state where they don't care
Murder is wrong but the jail time's not fair
Not to mention date rape, felony and car theft
Break it down and tell me what we've got left
Do they even know?
Do they even know?

If I was brave I'd write a letter to the president
And have him pass it to the leaders of our parliament
But for now I won't say nothing
From all the kids who would stand in my residence
Who see this letter as a statement of our innocence
As for now I'll start with something

Take a good look at Tommy, he's a track star
Good role model, had a chance to go real far
Then the school made a budget-cut
Cut out the track team
Now instead Tommy is a crack head

Same-sex marriage in a state where they don't care
Murder is wrong but the jail time's not fair
Not to mention date rape, felony, and car theft
Break it down and tell me what we've got left

If I was brave I'd write a letter to the president
And have him pass it to the leaders of our parliament
But for now I won't say nothing
From all the kids who would stand in my residence
Who see this letter as a statement of our innocence
As for now I'll start with something

OK. It might be a weird song but here's my point to it. It's saying that there are problems in the world but we need to be brave, step out and do something about it. There are people marrying people who are the same gender, people killing others, people getting raped, people committing felonies, people stealing cars, people killing babies, and people committing suicide. All this stuff is going on around us. There are other things too like people starving, people not having access to clean water, THERE ARE PEOPLE LIVING IN SLAVERY and what's being done about it? We have a very intelligent generation if we will apply the skill and determination. So we need to step out and stand up for what's right. Even doing small things is helpful.

Innocent by Stellar Kart

I'm overdressed for success
In a world that has no shame
I've had enough of seeing love
Being played like some game

I know why the good old days are gone
Cause everyone just tolerates whats wrong
I'm not some empty space for rent

I wanna be innocent
Yours wholeheartedly
Innocent
Every part of me
Take me back so I can see
The way that love was meant to be

Boys and girls
The real world
Is one that's filled with consequence
And all the lies that glamorize
It's a life that's broken
I see why the good old days are gone
Every time I turn my TV on
What's wrong with being different

I wanna be innocent
Yours wholeheartedly
Innocent
Every part of me
Take me back so I can see
The way that love was meant to be

Buried underneath this avalanche
You are my hope and second chance
Don't let my heart get away

OK. I love this song! It's saying the world may want to do some things but I don't want to be involved in any of that. I want to be innocent. I don't want to be like everyone else. I'd rather be innocent and myself not...anyone else.

Now this next one I'm still deciding if it's going to be one of my theme songs. I'm still thinking about it but here it is. It's kinda weird but I like it.

Let's Dance by Hawk Nelson

They teach us how to talk, they'll teach us how to walk
They'll teach us how to dance just like this
They'll teach us how to dress in nothin' but the best
It's all about success

Why do we fill our heads
With these things that all make no sense
We're no different from the rest
We're all just tryin' to shake this mess

And I don't wanna look inside myself cause
Then I'll have to change somethin' else and
I don't want to live, like someone else
I'm happy in my skin, bein' myself
Let's dance

They teach us how to roll, make em lots of dough
Money is the god we work for
Keep up with the style, this artificial smile
Will only last a while

Why do we fill our heads
With these things that all make no sense
We're no different from the rest
We're all just tryin' to shake this mess

And I don't wanna look inside myself cause
Then I'll have to change somethin' else and
I don't want to live, like someone else I'm
Happy in my skin, bein' myself
Let's dance

OK the "let's dance" part is kinda random but the song is good. To me it says that I want to me myself and people might think I'm weird but I'm OK, that's just how I am. I don't want to change, I just want to be myself, let's dance.

In Conclusion

I know those songs are similar but I'm working on a list of more...diverse theme songs. Included on my list of ideas for theme songs.

Beautiful-Bethany Dillon
Cross the Line-Superchick

I can't think of anything else right now.

Thanks for reading!

Update

I changed the name of my blog as you might be able to see. So it is now Gloria in Excelsis Deo. Here is the story or whatever. I know it's a Christmas song. But I love Christmas music so it was good. And it means glory to God in the highest. I was thinking how I didn't want just my name as the title. That didn't seem right. I wanted something more insightful I guess. I also love foreign languages. Especially the weird ones. I like Latin a lot and I like Hebrew a lot. I thought about having the first words of the Sh'ma as the title but I changed my mind and I liked Gloria in Excelsis Deo. It was simple and something people could understand. Gloria in Excelsis Deo. Glory to God in the highest. On this blog I plan to give glory to God not to man. If you ever see something that doesn't glorify God please tell me. I hope you like the new title. Please tell me your thoughts on it. Thank you

Bible Verses

Here are some of the Bible verses that I have on my boards in my room. These verses have helped me through hard times. The first one in my signature on the Rebelution and my text messages.

Numbers 6:24-26 (English Standard Version)
The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.

Deuteronomy 6:4-5 (English Standard Version)
"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.

Deuteronomy 31:6 (English Standard Version)
Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you."

Jeremiah 1:7-9 (English Standard Version)
But the LORD said to me,
"Do not say, 'I am only a youth’; for to all to whom I send you, you shall go, and whatever I command you, you shall speak. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you,
declares the LORD."
Then the LORD put out his hand and touched my mouth. And the LORD said to me, "Behold, I have put my words in your mouth.

Colossians 1:15-17 (English Standard Version)
The Preeminence of Christ
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Philippians 2:1-11 (New King James Version)
Unity Through Humility
Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.
The Humbled and Exalted Christ
Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

1 Timothy 4:12 (New King James Version)
Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.~Psalms 19:14

Isaiah 40:27-31(NKJV)
27 Why do you say, O Jacob,
And speak, O Israel:
“ My way is hidden from the LORD,
And my just claim is passed over by my God”?
28 Have you not known?
Have you not heard?
The everlasting God, the LORD,
The Creator of the ends of the earth,
Neither faints nor is weary.
His understanding is unsearchable.
29 He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.
30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall,
31 But those who wait on the LORD
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.

Jeremiah 29:11 (New King James Version)
11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

"For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father's family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?" ~Esther 4:14

Philippians 4:8 (New American Standard Bible)
Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.

Weather

Yes. I am about to talk about the weather. And I want people to actually read my blog? I must be crazy. Anyway...

This morning I woke up and went to check the weather on the news. It was a high of 90 degrees and blowing dust. It's suppose to be winter. 90 is swimming weather. Too bad the pools are still too cold and green. Anyway....

Blowing Dust
Is that weird or anyway? But it's blows dust a lot. Like you walk outside and the sky is brown. Well it wasn't quite like this today. But it was really windy. It usually is really windy where I am. Especially in the spring. We have lost trampolines and stuff. I got home one day from school and the trampoline had flown over the fence. There once was like 80-90 mph wind. That was crazy. That was a crazy storm. We lost a trampoline is that one. We have had a couple of minor tornadoes at my house. Thunderstorms like crazy. And blowing dust.

Does it blow dust anywhere else? It's so dry here and windy and the dust is everywhere because there are no trees and all the grass is dead. So the sky is brown.

This is boring. But I spent time writing it so I am posting it. So might as well.

Sinking Sand, and Christ the Rock

One of my favorite movies is The Second Chance. One of the themes in the movie addresses comfort zones and stuff. One song played is one of my favorites. Here are the lyrics

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly trust in Jesus’ Name.

On Christ the solid Rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

Sinking Sand

What is sinking sand? Where is it? One think suggested in the movie and I agree with is that comfort is sinking sand. I don't know about you but I sure like my comfort zone and a step out of it is...no bueno. But my comfort zone is my sinking sand.

Christ the Rock

Christ is the solid rock. Anyway not on Christ is sinking sand.

Well I guess I don't have too much to say. But I just wanted to get that out there. I encourage you to think about what your sinking sand is. Comment any responses and comments.

Before I finish I'm going to add lyrics to another song from the movie. And I encourage everyone to watch the movie. Michael W. Smith - All In The Serve

Never gave you nothing
people couldn't explain a way
Never gave you nothing without
Something to gain never could slow down
Enough to study your face but now i
Wanna know your name

Chorus: Hold my feet to the fire
Till I'm breaking a sweat
Till I'll never forget your call
Keep me in line
Give me the nerve
Here it's all in the serve

Locked in the diamond lane
I keep driving past it
Better to be safe
Than learn what your a bout
Give me another chance to go where
You're going now
I’m here to walk it out
I’m here to walk it out
I’m here to walk it out

Chorus: (2x’s)

It’s all in the serve
It’s all in the serve
Here it’s all in the serve
